Krabi Province lies in southern Thailand and is one of the most strikingly beautiful regions of Thailand with its large numbers of islands, white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters and its famous limestone karsts which jut out of the sea.

The main beach in Krabi Province is Ao Nang where large numbers of tourists can explore the nearby beaches and islands by Thai longboats. Journey times vary from 10 minutes to the beautiful beach at Railay to almost 30 minutes to Koh Kai. The most beautiful beach in the area is often considered to be Pra Nang beach (Princess Cave beach) with its limestone caves. Railay beach is very popular with backpackers and a younger crowd. can be very expensive and it is advisable to book in advance as rooms go quickly. Another popular island is Ko Poda which is around eight kilometers from Ao Nang. Further afield lies the popular islands of Koh Phi Phi and Phuket. Krabi has its' own airport with daily flights to and from Bangkok. Krabi can also be reached by car from Bangkok and there also buses which go straight to Krabi from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal. Fares are inexpensive but journey times can be around 12 hours. Finally the nearest train is Trang after which a bus has to be taken for the final part of the journey to Krabi. Trains also go to Surat Thani from Bangkok and then a bus has to be taken from Surat Thani to Krabi. Bus journey is around 4 hours.

Krabi Province offers a wealth of activities including some of the best diving sites in the world. Other activities include sailing, sea kayaking, jungle trekking, rock climbing, fishing and water sports. For sun worshippers who have come to sunbathe and relax on the beach, there are spas and Thai massage is available in most locations as well as on most beaches.

Krabi Province is less developed than Phuket but there is accommodation to suit all budgets and rooms are hard to find in the peak season around December and January. Restaurants are also abundant with Thai and international cuisine available. Nightlife is quieter than some other areas but there is still a wide variety of bars and nightlife in areas such as Ao Nang.
