Thailand has the full range of accommodation from dormitories to five star hotels. During the peak season, which is approximately from December to February but can be longer, it is best to book ahead as many hotels are full and prices for all accommodation can be substantially higher than for low season. Although prices have rocketed over recent years, Thailand can still be much cheaper than western countries in terms of travelling, food, transport and accommodation.

As with most island hotels, the most expensive hotels will be those on the beach or within a short walking distance of popular beaches. For those on a tight budget, it may be worth staying at hotels a little further from the beach and in some cases

this does not represent a problem as some hotels provide free travel to the local beach. Many hotels provide a variety of rooms to cater for different budgets with fan rooms being the cheapest and air conditioned rooms priced at higher levels. Laundry is not usually a problem as most hotels will do a person's laundry based on weight for a small fee. Other facilities usually on offer at most larger hotels include wireless internet or an internet room, airport pickup at a price, daily room cleaning, restaurant area with some hotels including breakfast in the room price, extra bed for a fee, tours and guides, fridge, tv, 24 reception, swimming pool and a bar area.
